EXPERIENCE THE FLAVOURS OF BALI
The Pesantian Bali Cooking Classes offer more than just a cooking lesson—they are an opportunity to discover, experience, and immerse yourself in the rich culinary traditions and culture of Bali.
Through a hands-on cooking experience, you will be guided by our experienced Chef, Santika, as you prepare a selection of authentic Balinese dishes using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Along the way, you will discover the unique flavours, aromas, textures, and traditional cooking techniques that make Balinese cuisine so distinctive.
Awaken your senses as you touch, smell, and taste fresh ingredients, many of which may have been selected from a local market earlier that morning. Our cooking classes are designed to be relaxed, enjoyable, and interactive, allowing you to experience Balinese cuisine not only through cooking, but also through the stories, traditions, and culture behind each dish.
OPTIONAL LOCAL MARKET TOUR
To make your experience even more authentic, you can begin your cooking class with a visit to a traditional local market. Accompanied by Chef Santika, you will explore the colourful market stalls while learning about the ingredients used in Balinese cooking.
Your Chef will introduce you to a fascinating variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, aromatic herbs and spices, as well as meat, fish, and other local produce. You will also have the opportunity to select and purchase some of the ingredients that you will later use during your cooking class.
More than simply a place to buy food, the local market is an important part of everyday Balinese life. A market visit offers a glimpse into the daily rhythms, traditions, and community spirit of Bali, giving you a deeper understanding of the culture behind the cuisine.
From the market to the kitchen, every step of your experience is an invitation to taste, learn, and connect with the authentic flavours and culture of Bali.
Meet The Chef
Ubud Cooking Class by Pesantian Villa & Warung is the culmination of the dream of two families, who have shared an appreciation of good food, a love and respect for the Balinese culture and the possibilities of what can be achieved in working together on this exciting restaurant and accommodation project near Ubud.
After meeting through a cooking class almost twenty years ago, Ian and Santika, both chefs, have developed a strong friendship and mutual respect for each other based on their love of cooking.
Through developing the Pesantian property, it is exciting for them to have established a restaurant serving first class local Balinese food in an amazing setting. Chef Santika, who is passionate about the quality and tradition of the food that he serves, sources local produce where possible.
Chef Santika has had many years experience conducting cooking classes in the past and so it is a natural progression that he start a Ubud Cooking Class at Pesantian Villa & Warung.
